A New Year, A New Beginning

January 13th, 2009 by judytalks

Eaach New Year’s we receive the gift of a clean slate. Out with the old, in with the new! Usually, it’s not that simple. Tidying up the first weeks in January remind us of the goals not met, problems not solved, disappointments and losses endured.

2008 was, by far, one of the most traumatic years for many of us. Crisis, adversity, and loss hit us hard, leaving us wondering how to recover.

As a survivor of a number of painful losses (as are most of us), I’ve discovered a method for coping that works well for me, and may be just the ticket for you. It begins with the inner self, introspective, truth-telling, and all-embracing of who you are and what matters most to you.

Looking outside ourselves for answers has merit, because no one can do it alone. However, the first place to begin healing and moving forward in the face of adversity is within the core of your being, the soul, the spirit that connects with mind and body.

I returned from  Holiday vacation with a nasty virus,  low resources, and the revelation that the well-being of the mind, body and spirit start before stress and illness strike. Did I already know this? Yes. Do I listen to myself? Not always. So my goal for 2009 is to be true to myself, the person who knows me best, to devote time and energy to those things I truly value, and live by design, not accident.

It’s a brand New Year, and choices abound. I wish you blessings, comfort, and lasting peace.

Judy
